PE/SPORT BTEC
What we aim to achieve
• Be able to participate in sport and understand the
roles and responsibilities of officials.
• Encourage personal development through practical
participation and performance in a range of sports
and exercise activities.
• Demonstrate ways to improve participants
sporting techniques.
• Give learners a wider understanding and
appreciation of health-related fitness, sports and
exercise through specialist units.
• Provide a qualification that builds on learning from
Key Stage 3 for those who may wish to explore a
vocational route within Physical Education
throughout Key Stage 4
Course outline
The Pearson BTEC Tech Award Level 1/2 in Sport
includes an externally assessed unit in ‘Fitness
for Sport and Exercise’. Further units of study are
internally assessed and include:
What skills do I need?
If you do not bring your full PE kit to your PE
lessons, you will not be considered for this course.
To be a successful candidate within PE BTEC Tech
Award Level 1 / 2 in Sport, you will need to have
good organisational skills and a commitment to
meet deadlines. You will need to have enthusiasm
and have good practical ability in sport. Written
assignments will need to be of good quality and you
will need to be able to work independently or within
group situations.
• Preparing Participants to take part in Sport and
Physical activity – Component 1
• Taking part and improving other participants
sporting performance – Component 2
How will I be assessed?
The assessment approach for the internally assessed
units requires you to produce evidence in the form of
coursework assignments, towards meeting the unit
assessment criteria. Such assignments will include the
following topics:
• Explore types and provision of sport and physical
activity for different types of participant.
• Examine equipment and technology required for
participants to use when taking part in sport and
physical activity.
• Be able to prepare participants to take part in sport
and physical activity.
• Understand how different components of fitness are
used in different physical activities.
