A message from Tony Bush, Interim Director of Active Suffolk
There is no doubt that
2020/21 has been the
most difficult and
challenging year most of
us have ever faced and it
is with great pride we can
look back over the year
and highlight our small
contribution to the Suffolk’s response
to the Covid19 Pandemic.
The Active Suffolk team have responded
magnificently to the changing circumstances
throughout the year, all working remotely and
continuing to deliver high quality outcomes.
Active Suffolk continues to prove itself resilient,
adaptable, and innovative in the way it continues
to respond to the on-going challenges of the
pandemic.
As well as supporting Local Authorities and other
organisations whilst their staff were redeployed
on other priorities, Active Suffolk have continued
to provide support for individuals to become and
remain active, distribute much needed funding
to clubs and organisations and to support the
workforce while many were furloughed or out of
work.
It has also been a year of
considerable change for Active
Suffolk with both our Director,
John Clough and Head of Health &
Wellbeing, Tracy Brownlow retiring
after many years of service. The
organisation also appointed a
new Chair for the Board, Stuart
Cartwright, who brings his
considerable skills and experience
to the Board at such a critical time.
The messaging regarding the
benefits of physical activity
have never been stronger or
so prominent in the nation’s
consciousness as they have been
over the last year and I welcome
Sport England’s new 10-year
strategy Uniting the Movement
which will act as the catalyst
reduce those stubborn health
inequalities, which have been
widened during the pandemic. The
Sport & Physical Activity sector
must also play its part in delivering
an economic recovery from the
pandemic.
With the collaborative approach
which Active Suffolk has at its
heart I’m confident that we will
continue to meet the challenges
that 2021/22 have in store for us.
Tony Bush
Interim Director
