Tackling Inequalities Fund
Shortly after restrictions on exercising and guidelines around social distancing were introduced in late
March, Sport England conducted regular surveys to establish the impact of the pandemic on physical
activity levels across the country. It quickly become clear that certain groups of people were being
disproportionately affected which is why the Tackling Inequalities Fund was created. In the last year we
worked to distribute these funds to organisations in Suffolk who work with those living with disability, long
term conditions, from areas of deprivation or who are from a black, Asian or minority ethnic group.

We received £1,992 from
the Sport England Tackling
Inequalities Fund. This allowed us
28
to renew our insurance, to reaffiliate
with England Boxing and register
existing coaches, put two of our coaches
through the Emergency First Aid course,
cover some venue costs and purchase
equipment to allow for a covid safe
return. The whole process was an
extremely easy one to follow and our
contact at Active Suffolk was able to sign
post further resources and followed up
our request for further support.

£1758 allowed us
to purchase sports
equipment for our
home exercise training
equipment for 40 families from
the Portuguese and BAME
community living in Ipswich.
This supported 52 adult and
26 teenagers to be active from
home. In addition, the fund also
allowed us to deliver virtual
exercise classes 3 times per
week to 18 women living within
these communities
members who are
affected by physical and
mental disability, allowing
them to safely participate
in physical activity whilst
other settings were
unavailable to them. The
Active Suffolk team were
helpful and supportive
throughout.

Emergency
Fund
The Community Emergency Fund is a
combination of National Lottery and
government funding, administered by Sport
England. Grants of £300 - £10,000 were
available to help cover such things as club
utility costs, rent, core staffing costs and any
losses since 1st March 2020. Active Suffolk
worked to support local clubs to submit
applications for grants which would help them
recover from the sudden closures as a result
of the first Covid-19 lockdown.

I was delighted when Sport
England confirmed our grant
award. On behalf of the Club and our
members we would like to pass on our
huge thanks to Sport England for its
recognition and support. The grant will
help to cover some of our on-going staffing
costs, utilities, regular costs and loan
commitments and we will be back serving
our members and the community as soon
as it is safe to do so.
