Health & Wellbeing
One of our key aims is to Improve local people’s health and wellbeing through increased participation in
sport, physical activity, and movement.
The projects:
Active Wellbeing
Fit Villages
The Active Wellbeing Service is designed to support older adults (50+)
who are currently inactive to find physical activity that suits their needs.
In addition, this project also supports the local workforce and offers
Physical Activity Champion training for local health professionals,
partners, and physical activity advocates within the community. This year
we secured funding to deliver the project for the South Rural Primary
Care Network supporting patients from the surgeries in Hadleigh,
Needham Market, Bildeston, Shotley and Holbrook and East Bergholt.
Fit Villages is a well-established project that makes
a real difference to local communities by bringing
people together to socialise, have fun and become
more active. Our team, work with local activators to
consult residents, source instructors and support
with the promotion and initial funding, allowing for
the first 8 weeks of activity to be subsidised for local
community.
The Active Wellbeing Service is now also being delivered for residents
in the Whitton area of Ipswich after receiving funding from the Ipswich
and East Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group (IESCCG) via the NHS
Community Ambitions Fund. As well as delivering this service, we are also
working with the partners at The Unity Centre in the heart of Whitton,
to support and deliver wellbeing days in the area including the set up of
physical activity provision and functional fitness MOT’s.
This year we have used this same model to pilot the
This year’s successes
Recovery Grant Project, funded by the Recovery
Grant Scheme through the Drug & Alcohol Team at
Suffolk County Council, supporting those recovering
from drug or alcohol addiction to engage in exercise
in the community. The project launched from
The Key in Ipswich earlier this year where a local
instructor is delivering an initial 12 weeks of yoga.
