Graphic Design
All students will experience Graphic Design in Year 7 & 8, introducing them to computer aided design software,
developing their 3Dimensional & Technical Drawing skills and exploring a range of design components to help
students communicate ideas fully. Teaching looks to develop a range of hand drawn and computer aided design
skills to reflect a variety of application methods within the world of Graphic Design. Both of these approaches form
a fundamental aspect of the GCSE course that reflects the wide range of creative processes available in an industry
that is constantly evolving in light of consumer preferences. A freedom to explore provides our students will a license
to use their imagination and produce ideas with no fear of failure. Students are encouraged to explore and develop
their ideas, building on the skills that are taught through observing the work of recognised designers and other
influential aspects that support them when working to a design brief.
Food
Preparation
& Nutrition
All year 7 & 8 students experience
Food Preparation and Nutrition on a
rotation with other design subjects and
many choose this subject at GCSE level
where we offer both Food Preparation
and Nutrition and Hospitality and
Catering. Pupils work with a wide range
of ingredients where topics covered
are all geared to develop healthy eating
as well as develop a range of practical
skills. At key stage 3 projects cover the
introduction to the kitchen environment,
food hygiene and safety, establishing
routines and building practical skills. It
considers food safety through personal
hygiene, as well as healthy eating using
The Eatwell guide to emphasise the
importance of a healthy diet and the
recommended daily amounts of nutrients
through both theory and practical
lessons. We also enjoy to work with the
local college catering department to learn
more about in industry and careers.
