Drama
All students in their first three years study one lesson a week of Drama. Taught in mixed ability groups by specialist
staff, Drama builds confidence, communication skills, cooperation and creativity, whilst also exploring a wide range of
topics and issues.
Whilst of course we would love to produce the next Meryl Streep or David Tennant, Drama is not designed to solely
create actors. The skills built in a drama class can be used in almost any professional environment, whether it be
presenting ‘pitches’ to colleagues, convincing a jury of a defendants innocence, answering the phone or working in a
team to find a solution to a problem. Drama builds fundamental skills that will help a young person throughout their
working life.
But of course, those that love it, can join our Drama clubs and audition for a part in the annual school play – all ages,
all abilities warmly welcomed.
Art & Photography
In Art across all years we aim to encourage personal, creative, and imaginative approaches to the communication and
expression of original ideas, feelings, and meanings. Students develop their investigative, analytical, experimental,
and interpretive capabilities in the art & photography areas.
The large Art rooms are multifunctional
allowing us to paint & draw, to develop
printing techniques & mixed media textiles,
to experiment with 3D construction &
ceramics and use photographic and digital
media to extend ideas into a different
dimension! We are constantly practising and
nurturing skills to gain confidence within each
discipline, thus helping to extend creativity.
We have opportunities for students to take
part in extra-curricular activities, gallery and
museum visits as well as welcoming artists
& designers to work alongside students in
school.
We encourage and praise the exhibition of
work through various events in and out of
school. All year groups are included in our
annual summer exhibition.
Our goal is to improve personal attributes
such as self-confidence, resilience,
perseverance, self-discipline and
commitment; to inspire creativity and have
some fun!
