Sixth Form
Stowmarket High School has a long established Sixth Form which while it may be small in size is big in community.
Sixth Form subjects are exclusively taught by a dedicated and enthusiastic team of specialists in their subjects.
Students enjoy being taught in small groups which further enhances that sense of community by allowing for
excellent student teacher relationships to grow through their time in the Sixth Form. Our Sixth Form has its own
building which allows them to have an exclusive Sixth Form only space wherein lessons are taught as well as private
study and social events take place.
Over 90% of our Year 13 students year on year moving on to one of their first choice Universities. This demonstrates
the excellent futures support they are afforded through their tutors, Head of Sixth Form and Futures coordinator,
through a comprehensive programme of support.
Extra Curricular
Extra curricular activities are an essential component of the curriculum at Stowmarket High School. PE offer a wide
range of competitive team sports, such as football (both boys and girls), netball, cricket, rugby, and basketball,
complimented with a host of individual opportunities through athletics, trampoline, badminton and tennis. During
the week they will offer a range of less formal fun clubs, such as five-a side. The arts offer subsidised private music
tuition, music concerts and talent shows, the annual school production, theatre trips, drama clubs, whilst other
subjects offer everything from reading groups, STEM club, young designer and entrepreneur groups, cookery clubs
and homework support opportunities.
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
We run the Bronze award in Year 10 and the Silver award in Year 12.
The Bronze award consists of 4 sections, Volunteering, Physical, Skill and a two-night camping and hiking Expedition.
The D of E award is not only enjoyable to do but achieving an Award will develop skills and confidence that all
employers, colleges and universities are looking for.
The volunteering section, particularly is a fantastic opportunity for them to give something back to our local
community. I was blown away earlier this year when I walked into Stowmarket library to find one of our students
surrounded by engrossed mums and toddlers, whilst she read them all a story, as part of her volunteering section.
Participants will be getting recognised for doing things they want to do (and may even be doing already). They’ll
make a difference to other people’s lives and their community, be fitter and healthier, make new friends and have
memories to last a lifetime!
